Doctor Who – The End of Time Part 1 Preview and Part 2 Preview

Hey!

As promised, here is the preview for the highly anticipated last 2 doctor who episodes for david tennant! The end of time parts 1 and 2 are below:

The End of Time is the title of the two-part Doctor Who special that will be broadcast during the 2009–2010 Christmas season. This will be the last story for David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor prior to the character’s regeneration into his eleventh incarnation, who will be played by Matt Smith. It will also be the last Doctor Who story written by Russell T Davies, who shepherded the series’ return to British television in 2005 and has been the series’ executive producer and chief writer since. Davies will be succeeded as executive producer and showrunner by Steven Moffat.

The title The End of Time was first attributed to this story in a trailer unveiled at the San Diego ComicCon in July 2009; it was subsequently confirmed as the proper title for Part 2 in Doctor Who Magazine #412. On 19 November, the BBC announced that both parts will carry the title The End of Time, marking the first occasion since Survival in 1989 that the same title has been used for more than one episode.

SYNOPSIS

Part 1

Its the Tenth Doctor’s final journey – but his psychotic nemesis the Master has been reborn, on Christmas Eve. With both determined to cheat death, the battle ranges from the wastelands of London to the mysterious Immortality Gate, while the alien Ood warn of an even greater danger approaching, as a terrible shadow falls across the entireUniverse.

Part 2

The Doctor faces the end of his life as the Master’s plans hurtle out of control. With the sound of drums growing louder, and an ancient trap closing around the Earth, the Doctor and Wilf must fight alone. But sacrifices must be made, and the deadly prophecy warns: “He will knock four times.”

Cast

Its a big cast list, isn’t it. But it’s all worth it

References

  • The name of Jessica Hynes’ character, Verity Newman, is a reference to Verity Lambert and Sydney Newman. This is the second time the revived series has honoured the two people who are considered among the primary creators of Doctor Who; a similar reference occurred in Human Nature when the Doctor, under his human guise, says his parents were named Verity and Sydney.
  • In the preview, the Tenth Doctor lists off things he did instead of rushing to meet Ood Sigma; among them is a implied marriage with Elizabeth I. He also implies that one nickname for her can’t be used anymore. The Doctor had previously encountered her in DWThe Shakespeare Code, at which point she treated him as an enemy.
  • The clip shown on BBC Breakfast includes a reference to Netty from Beautiful Chaos.
  • NOTES
  • This will be David Tennant‘s last appearance as the Doctor and also Matt Smith‘s first appearance.
  • The second part is confirmed to be 75 minutes, 4 longer than Voyage of the Damned. Thus it will be the new holder of the title of third longest single episode, behind the 85 minute long TV movie and the 90 minute long The Five Doctors.
  • David Tennant has revealed that not all the episode will be set on Earth.
  • With this, his final Doctor Who story, Davies will have written or co-written no less than 10 consecutive episodes (this number counts two-parters as separate and also includes a mini-episode, but does not include Torchwood), an unprecedented accomplishment in the history of the franchise.
  • This is the first story of more than one episode since Survival to have one overarching title. It is unknown if this is one-off or will be continued under Moffat.
  • There will be a new alien race called the Vinvocci, two members from the species are called Addams and Rossister. [28] [29]

Rumours

  • All the Tenth’s Doctor’s companions have been seen as appearing, except Martha and Mickey.
  • It has been confirmed that Jessica Hynes will appear as Verity Newman and published Journal of Impossible Things [30]
  • Timothy Dalton was seen on set wearing Time Lord robes: this could mean the return of the Time Lords. [31] Additionally, Roger Bailey is credited as playing “Time Lord”.
  • David Harewood will play Joshua Naismith, who he described as a “a rather strange individual. He wants to do something remarkable and he seeks the help of probably the most evil person in the universe. And by seeking his help, he sets in motion a series of events that could possibly bring about the end of the world”. He also did scenes with John Simm, meaning that Naismith may work with the Master. [32]
  • Prior to the BBC’s official announcement in mid-November, it was unclear whether Part 1 and Part 2 would both carry the same title (as prior to this only the title of Part 2 had been confirmed by the network). Following the broadcast of The Waters of Mars, Russell T. Davies was quoted in the media as saying the title of Part 1 would have six words, leading to speculation over what it might be before it was announced that the two chapters would share the title The End of Time.
  • It was hinted by Russel T. Davies that Donna Noble and/or Wilfred Mott will die, mentioning “her [Donna's] last words” and speaking grimly of Wilf’s fate in The End of Time; the plot summary mentions that sacrifices will be made
The Immortality Gate
  • The Gate was mentioned by The Trickster in The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith
  • Joshua Naismith says “prepare the Gate!” in a brief clip for The End of Time, to which an unusual large gate-like machine is shown in what may be his mansion: how this will tie in to the finale is unknown.
  • The Gate was also mentioned in an interview given by Russell T. Davies with the Radio Times in 2008 for the release of The Next Doctor. He said: “But oh, what a Christmas that’s going to be. Let’s just say that dark forces are gathering already. The Gate is waiting and life will never be the same again…”
  • Another mention to ‘The Gate’ was made in another Radio Times interview, given by Davies. He said: “The Master’s return is just the start of our biggest, most heart-breaking story yet. The Immortality Gate is waiting.”

It is the end of time, and it is near. The preview picture!

The Doctor has been warned, his song will end soon. How will it happen is the big question! Be prepared for shocks i have been told. If you think the stuff you saw in the trailers is it…. THERE IS WELL MORE WHICH IS BEING KEPT UNDERCOVER! look at previous posts for that stuff

EXTRAS

10 Spoilers for the end of time. oh i do love teasing you!

1. The first line of the episode? “It is said that in the final days of planet Earth, everyone had bad dreams.”

2. Continuing the Children In Need scene, where The Doctor is in the cave with The Ood, he sees visions of The Master, Joshua Naismith… and Wilf.

3. The Master’s resurrection is preposterous. Absolutely preposterous. Lucy Saxon – incarcerated after the events of ‘The Last of the Time Lords’ – plays a key part in the process. And she has such lovely lipstick.

4. We don’t have to wait too long before The Master and The Doctor come face-to-face for their Star Wars-esque battle. Other films getting small nods in ‘Part One’ include Jaws 2 (thump thump) and The Matrix.

5. Joshua Naismith, an idiot and a fool, wants Harold Saxon The Master to do something for him.

6. There’s an awful lot of Wilf in this episode. Not too much Donna to start with, although we find out what she’s been doing with her life while The Doctor’s been absent. And she’s still very special.

7. POTUS!

8. Random words from the script: “cactus” (Wilf), “shimmer” (Doctor), “coincidence” (TV), “so hungry” (Master), “…new man goes sauntering away” (Doctor).

9. New picture alert:

10. An entry posted here on Tube Talk in the last day or so (not necessarily Who-related) is actually pretty significant.

Dont get any ideas from the masters picture!

WHATS THIS!?!?!?!?!

It’s only the guys from digitalspy.co.uk!

So, there is nothing else i can say about The End of Time, or is there. YES OF COURSE THERE IS!

How much you want the Doctor to triumph, how much you fear for Donna, how much you dread the Master, how much Bernard Cribbins can make you laugh one minute and cry the next. It’s all about those wonderful actors, filling your screen and making you care.”

“Bernard can break your heart with a look, a gesture, a smile. That’s why he;s the perfect companion for the tenth Doctor;s final tale – two wise old men, fighting the good fight. But every soldier must give up the battle in the end, and poor old Wilf has some terrible reckonings to come.”

“There were a lot of last scenes for us all,” explains Davies. “The last day with poor old Wilf, Donna’s final words, the last day on the TARDIS, the last time David used his sonic screwdriver. There was a lot of emotion on set. The most awful moment came with the four knocks…”

Russell also speaks of the Master:
“It’s personal for the Doctor. The Master is his enemy, his opposite, and yet so tantalisingly close to being his soul mate. There’s something epic about their sheer existence – the last two survivors of an ancient race. It’s a clash of the titans. Both of them are heading for death, and yet both are determined to survive – at any cost!”

In the latest commentary, Russell T Davies, Julie Gardner and David Tennant talk of some stuff which MAY be of very interesting interest; so interestingly mad that I can’t even type at the moment! :D

Russell: …because long ago the Ood said, “I think your song is sending soon,”
David: Yup,
Russell: They knew, but how do they know? How can Ood be that psychic and that intelligent? How? What’s happening? What’s going on in the universe?
Julie: You big, big tease.
David: Time is running away with itself somehow.
Russell: You’d think something is bleeding, coming through from the other side. Very strange…
David: We’ll have to come back and see what happens there…

What could this mean?! Many have suggested the parallel universe (“the other side”)??

You can listen to the commentary HERE.

And also a warning, that the Children in Need sneak peek will not be online! What is this outcry I hear? More viewers for Children in Need (and quite right too! :D ).

Thats …almost… it. just one last thing. the dvd cover!

Ok! The End of Time Part One is on Christmas Day and the second part on 1 Jan 2010, at 19:40 UK TIME. THe xmas time is in the previous post!

  1. I am genuinely impressed with the general content of your blog. It is easy to determine that you are fervent about your writing. If I had your writing ability, I know I would be successful. I have bookmarked your site and look forward to more updates.

  2. A colleague sends me to this (old) spot, only I receive troubles watching it right: splits are displayed at the outside of the normal display. Using Firefox, current edition BTW. is something erroneous or is the job at my end?
